Bunny’s First Movie

Saturday, I took Bunny to her very first movie.  We had originally planned on seeing “Cars 2″ for her first movie theater trip, but after the screening, I wasn’t sure it was age-appropriate for her.  We decided to go see “Winnie the Pooh” instead, and I am so glad we did.

I was nervous about taking her to a movie.  Bunny is very energetic and it’s often hard to get her to sit still for more than 15 minutes at a time.  So, I reached out to my great Facebook friends and asked for their best “taking a small child to the movies” tips.

Armed with our tickets, a small blanket, and Lovey Kitty, we made our way to the theater.  Of course, I had to make sure there were pictures of such a monumental event.

Bunny was practically running into the theater.  She was a little freaked out at the large seats, especially since she’s not exactly heavy enough to weigh them down.  We ended up sharing a seat for the first part of the movie and then I leaned my leg on her seat to keep it down.  I’m so glad we brought her lovey and a blanket with us.  Bunny is definitely a cuddle-er when it comes to watching movies, and having her blanket and lovey made her feel more comfortable.

Popcorn was also largely responsible for our successful trip.  All I had to do to curb a squirmy moment was give her a bite of popcorn.  Sure, it was bribery, but it worked well.  The film was only about an hour or so long, including previews and an adorable animated short.  I have a feeling she wouldn’t have lasted much longer than that.  In fact, as soon as the credits started to roll, she was ready to run out of the theater!

All in all, it was a wonderful experience for us both.  It was nice to something special with just the two of us, and I loved cuddling with her and watching a fantastic movie.  I often lament at how quickly my little girl is growing up, but then I’m reminded that along with growing up comes my opportunity to share new experiences with her.  And while she’ll probably forget about our first trip to the movies 20 years from now, I will never forget it.
