Huge news out of Walt Disney Studios today!
“Saving Mr. Banks” has officially begun production with Tom Hanks playing the role of Walt Disney! Wow! I can totally see Hanks in this role and it’s going to be crazy to see Walt Disney protrayed in a full-length feature film for the first time. It’s going to be a huge role for Hanks, playing a legend and household name like Walt Disney. I’m sure the Disney community will have lots to say about the film. I’m anxious to see the first one sheets and posters with Hanks as Walt.
What’s “Saving Mr. Banks” about, you ask?
“Saving Mr. Banks,” {is} the account of Walt Disney’s twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers’ popular novel, Mary Poppins, and the testy partnership the upbeat filmmaker develops with the uptight author during the project’s pre-production in 1961.
The film will also feature Colin Farrell, Bradley Whitford (YES!!!), B J Novak, Kathy Baker, and many more and will be directed by John Lee Hancock (“The Blind Side,” “The Rookie”).
“Saving Mr. Banks” will film entirely in the Los Angeles area, with key locations to include Disneyland in Anaheim and the Disney Studios in Burbank. Filming will conclude around Thanksgiving, 2012, with no specific 2013 release date yet set.
I can not wait to hear more about the film and follow the production. I really think it’s going to be amazing! I’ll be posting all of the updates as they become available.
Are you excited about “Saving Mr. Banks”?
