Doing it all, imperfectly

In case you’re wondering what all of my crazy is about, you can click to read my intro to Zero to Princess Half in 45 days.
I went for my first walk/run on Saturday. It was 60 degrees out and sunny. We spent the entire morning at the park with the kids, taking in the sunshine and fresh air. 60 degrees in January in Buffalo doesn’t happen often, y’all. We took full advantage.
This is what I ended up with:
While it’s not 13.1 miles, it’s something. I did a 5k+ under the required pace time (16 minute mile). I didn’t feel like death after and I actually enjoyed myself. My plan was to start out slowly (helloooo haven’t run since September, remember?) and only do a mile or so. The little lady on the Nike+ app told me I hit a mile and my brain immediately said “Nah, we’re not turning around just yet”. When she told me I was at two miles, my brain said “just a little farther and then we’ll turn around”. At three miles, I decided to hit the loop around back home. I forgot how awesome it is to be ALONE on the road, with my music and my thoughts, ALL ALONE.
There was definitely a lot more walk than run on this one, but even with that, my fastest mile (mile 1) clocked in at 12’20″. Not too shabby, really. I’m a tiny bit sore, but not as much as I expected for not doing a single shred of exercise since September. Definitely not sore enough to sit today out. I’m hoping to get some type of run/walk in tonight while dinner is in the oven. If not, Jillian and I will have a nice, sweaty, romantic date once the kids are in bed.
I realize it’s a long was away from 13.1 miles, especially with 38 days left until race day, but it’s a start. And as the running cliche goes, Did Not Finish is better than Never Started At All.
The Princess Half is 38 days away.

runDisney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend is next month. As in February. As in I’m expected to finish a 13.1 mile race in about 45 days.
Wanna know the last time I ran?
runDisney’s Tower of Terror 10 miler in September. (see my race recap)
Apparently I have a habit of registering for races and then not training until the last minute. I love races, I hate training. I’m sure most people feel that way, but they suck it up and train.
Me? I do the important stuff first. Like design my costume, download songs for my playlist and buy sport beans. Because those are the things that will keep me from collapsing by mile 6, right?
In all seriousness, two months of training was justifiably wasted waiting for a knee injury to heal. Turns out, falling down the stairs while holding a 30 pound toddler can wreck your knee. Who knew? It’s finally back to normal and not clicking every time I move it or swelling up like a balloon when I move the wrong way. Progress.
I do have a hard time figuring out when to train. It’s hard to find a time to run between the kids and TH’s schedule, and SAD makes it nearly impossible to motivate myself to get out of bed in the complete darkness of the morning. If I had a treadmill, all my problems would be solved. I could pop down to the basement while Bubba naps or in the mornings while TH is out on his run or getting ready for work. I wouldn’t have to contend with 20 degree weather or paying a gym membership fee. Alas, the $500+ needed to purchase said treadmill isn’t going to happen unless that damn money tree I planted in the backyard starts blooming soon.
So how do I do it? How do I go from nothing to finishing a half marathon in 45 days?
Well, for one, I plan on walking the majority of the race. (duh) And, yes, go ahead and roll your eyes, serious runners. I don’t care if you run/walk/bike/pogo stick it, 13.1 miles is an accomplishment for anyone, so don’t judge me for taking the “easy” way out and walking. I walked the 10 miler and finished in front of runners, so nana nana boo boo to you (bonus points if you get the Tosh.0 reference there).
I’m also going to have to get creative. While I know there is no replacement for actually getting out there and running/walking, I am hoping to do some other cardio workouts to at least build my cardio ability back up again. Any cardio I can accomplish is better than being sedentary.
Other than that, I’m hoping the adrenaline of the day helps push me through like last time. Too bad I won’t be able to have my lobster roll this time around.
Is it crazy? Sure. I know there’s a chance I won’t finish, but I’m willing to take that chance for the experience of a runDisney race. They’re that much fun and spending the weekend at Walt Disney World with my awesome sister-in-law isn’t a bad consolation prize, either.
At least I know my costume will be awesome and my playlist will rock.
It’s all about priorities, people.

TH and I saw Lincoln this weekend for my 30th birthday. { The movie was simply incredible, and I plan on seeing it in theaters at least one more time. If doesn’t sweep the Oscars, there’s something wrong with Hollywood.} You know what made it even better? Seeing the trailer for Oz The Great and Powerful on the big screen. I’ve watched the trailer online, but to see it in its full glory took my breath away. We also got to see the trailer for The Lone Ranger, which I’m equally excited about.
Check out the latest poster release from Oz (I’m totally hearing her music playing in my head as I look at it).
You can find all things Oz on Facebook and Twitter.
Oz The Great and Powerful hit theaters March 8, 2013.
Which witch are you most excited to meet when you journey to Oz in March?
I’m a Christmas movie hoarder. I swear I buy each and every Christmas move, Christmas special, and Christmas CD ever made. It’s at the point where I need to stash them in a different cabinet because it has overtaken the regular DVD cabinet. You can just imagine how excited I was to receive a copy of Disney’s Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups to review. Christmas, puppies, and Disney…can it get any better?
I popped the movie in and sat down with the kiddos to watch. We were all instantly hooked. Sure, it’s a little cheesy at times, but the songs are catchy and it’s really a feel-good story. The kids and I enjoyed it a lot and they’ve already asked to watch it again (that’s the true test for my kids, if it goes on repeat, it’s a winner).
Santa Paws 2 is focused on the newest Santa Pups: Jingle, Hope, Charity and Noble. The pups are anxious to earn their place at the North Pole and want to prove to Santa they can spread Christmas cheer all on their own. The pups stow away in the sleigh when Mrs. Claus makes a visit to Pineville, a town that has lost it’s Christmas Spirit. Their Christmas Spirit Ambassador to the North Pole has passed away, and it’s making the whole town lose sight of the meaning of Christmas. Instead of spreading Christmas Spirit, the pups inadvertently cause Christmas Spirit to disappear all over the world. With the help of a special family and Mrs. Claus, the pups try to reverse the spell and restore the Christmas Spirit. Check out the trailer and prepare to “awww”:
Our family gives this movie two thumbs up! My two and four year old were entertained and the length is just right. The storyline was basic enough for my four year old to understand and the action kept the two year old interested. The soundtrack is lots of fun and the underlying message of the story is a great lesson for all.
Want to win your very own copy of Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups on Disney Blu-Ray Combo Pack? Well, here’s your chance! Simply leave me a comment and tell me who you who you would nominate to be the Christmas Spirit Ambassador. Your mom? A friend? Who do you think embodies the Christmas Spirit all year long?
For a bonus entry, tweet about the giveaway and leave a separate comment with the link to your tweet.

Oz the Great and Powerful may not be in theaters until March 8, 2013, but I’ve got the premiere trailer for you now! I can not wait for Oz to come out. I’ve been a huge fan of all things Wizard of Oz, and it’s been awhile since there has been something new and exciting to catch my interest. Take a look at the trailer!
Oz the Great and Powerful isn’t your typical Oz story. This story focuses on Oscar Diggs (played by the delectible James Franco), a dubious magician who thinks he can use Oz to become rich and powerful. Little does he know, three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), are ready to stand in his way. This is definitely an “Oz of a different color” than the Oz we know with Dorothy and some red slippers.
Speaking of Dorothy, who was your favorite character from the original Wizard of Oz? Leave me a comment and let me know!
Until then, I’ll be following the yellow brick road to Oz this March when Oz the Great and Powerful lands in theaters.

In honor of the release of Cinderella: Diamond Edition on Disney DVD and Blu-ray, Stride Rite stores are offering a Royal Rite Fit Event, perfect for the little Princess in your life. Bunny and I headed over to our local Stride Rite store last weekend to check it out. She was in desperate need of some Fall/Winter shoes and I thought this would be the perfect way to spend a little mommy/daughter time on a Saturday afternoon.
The Stride Rite for Disney Princess collection is so adorable! There were shoes representing each Disney Princess and plenty of styles to choose from. Bunny immediately fell in love with the Cinderella Mary Janes. How can you resist a sparkly shoe that lights up? I loved the Cozy Boot, but Bunny insisted on the light-up shoes. I can’t really blame her.
The sales associate at our Stride Rite was so helpful. She led Bunny over to the special Princess fitting area and measured her feet. This was the first time Bunny was properly fitted for shoes. I don’t know why we waited so long!
Bunny was so excited to see her shoes presented to her on the special Disney Princess pillow. She told me “I feel just like Cinderella, mommy!”. {how flipping cute, right?}
The shoes fit!
At the end of the fitting, Bunny was presented with her very own “Certificate of the Perfect Fit“. She held that certificate the entire ride home and wanted to bring it to school the next day. It’s definitely going to go into her Memory Box upstairs.
In addition to the Royal Rite Fit Event, Stride Rite is holding The Perfect Fit Sweepstakes. One lucky Princess will get to hold a royal party for up to fifty guests to screen a Disney Princess movie. It even includes royal transportation to the party and other great gifts. You know I’ve entered!
I’m eyeing up the special Disney Princess edition of the Leap Pad that’s included in the sweepstakes. I’ve had my eye on one for Bunny for a while now. I may end up getting it for her for Christmas this year. She’d flip!
The Royal Rite Fit Event runs through October at participating Stride Rite Stores.
Will you be bringing your Princess to Stride Rite for her Royal Rite Fit?
Disclosure: I received a Stride Rite gift card during the #DisneyInHomeBloggers event (on behalf of SippyCupMom.com). I was not asked to or required to write about the Royal Rite Fit Event or the Perfect Fit Sweepstakes. All opinions are my own.

You can get the latest on The Lone Ranger from the official Facebook page and twitter account. I can say I was one of the first 15 people to follow the twitter account, something I’m pretty geeked about.
